Battery Isolators & Master Switches
About Battery Isolators & Master Switches

Battery isolators are available in a range of types which are suitable for different uses. Simple on / off battery isolators which fit in line in the battery cable are suitable for disconnecting the battery for security reasons or to prevent the battery becoming discharged because of a current draw on the vehicle. This type of battery isolator is not suitable for cutting the engine as the alternator will supply power to the engine allowing it to keep running even when the battery is disconnected. Cut off switches or battery master switches as they are commonly known are designed for cutting the engine as they can be wired to cut power from the alternator feed and the ignition coil aswell as the main battery cable. This type of cut off switch is required for use in motorsport as it allows the engine to be remotely switched off in case of an emergency. Battery master switches are available in manual types which uses a rotary key to switch off or on, and electrical types which use momentary switches to operate them.
