About Circuit Breakers & Fuses
|
Circuit breakers tend not to be used in production vehicles because of the cost when compared to a fuse, they do offer a number of benefits however. Car fuses have to have a higher rating than the current draw on the circuit to allow for 'spikes' meaning that sometimes the wiring can be damaged by the time the fuse blows. Circuit breakers are tolerant of spikes so the wire used can be the same rating as the breaker often saving weight due to thinner wires being used. Car fuses need replacing every time they blow but with circuit breakers they can be reset so they are a 'buy once' item which offers far better electrical system protection over standard fuses.
