A fuel filter is designed to prevent debris from reaching your fuel pump or injectors / carburettor. High pressure fuel injection pumps operate at very close tolerances so any ingress of dirt could easily damage the pump or cause it to fail completely. These pumps can be costly to replace so it is necessary to have an adequate fuel filter in place.
