About Gauges - Auxiliary

Auxiliary gauges are very important as they relay various information which the driver can use to identify problems. Gauges are available to display a variety of different engine parameters. For example a boost gauge is used to display the boost pressure created by a turbo / supercharger which means you can use the boost gauge to set a safe level of boost, alternatively it will highlight any overboost problems which could cause damage. Other types of gauge which can alert potential engine problems include –
Oil pressure gauge – an oil pressure gauge gives an instant indication of any drop in oil pressure which can quickly damage an engine.
Water temperature gauge – A water temperature gauge can be used to indicate when an engine is at its operating temperature and to highlight if the engine gets too hot which can cause damage.
Vacuum gauge – A vacuum gauge displays the vacuum created on the engines inlet. A drop in vacuum can indicate an air leak or worn piston rings.
